The goals of our junior golf tournament

Founded by Alasdair Good PGA, Head Professional at Gullane Golf Club, the HSBC Wee Wonders is a national junior golf event for the whole of Great Britain and Ireland.

The tournament gives boys and girls aged five to twelve the opportunity to enjoy the challenge and fun of competitive golf in an environment where the life lessons learnt by the youngsters – honesty, integrity and fairness - are as important as the game itself.

‘Wee Wonders has been running now for over ten years, and in that time I’ve seen much progress and development. Most recently since 2003 and through our partnership with HSBC, we have been able to take the event to new lengths. I applaud their unprecedented commitment to grassroots golf development, as well as thank the many, many golf clubs and individuals who help us to deliver the event on a yearly basis. My wish is to see the event continue successfully for another ten years and more, and in time we may even see a Major Champion of our own. This, however, is secondary to the many thousands of children who will experience golfing opportunity, some for the first time, and use this experience to teach them something more valuable about life and their own personal development.’

‘At HSBC, we are committed to supporting golf at all levels and the principles of fairness, honesty, integrity and inclusiveness which the sport represents. As such, sponsoring the Wee Wonders Championships for boys and girls is as meaningful to us as our presentation of the HSBC Champions tournament in Shanghai, and the HSBC Women’s Champions in Singapore. HSBC Wee Wonders gives thousands of children up to the age of 12 the chance to compete in an atmosphere of respect for one another, and, of course, the lucky finalists have the opportunity to play at St Andrews and experience the heritage of the game of golf. We can think of no better way to encourage people to participate.’

‘The 2007 HSBC Wee Wonders Championships was a marvellous event and everyone here at The R&A in St Andrews is looking forward to an even bigger and better competition this year. We take this opportunity to wish all competitors the best of luck and look forward to seeing the grand finalists here at the Home of Golf.’
